ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This exhibition would not have been possible without the expertise and time shared by a number of people. I would like to thank Robbie Blackhall-Miles for donating the seeds from his personal seed bank. The valuable exchange of knowledge and discussions that have informed my thoughts, which essentially resulted in the materialisation of a collaboration that has allowed me to consider the deeper issues of conservation and the role of art and science in highlighting such narratives.

I would also like to thank various Liverpool John Moores University Faculty of Sciences staff, specialist electron microscopy technician Paul Gibbons for all his time in teaching me how to use the scanning electron microscope. I am especially grateful to Prof Christopher Hunt for sharing his vast intellect on Earth Science, as well as allowing me to use the dissection microscope equipment. Prof Andrew Young for his knowledge and time to discuss the SEM images to enlighten me on plant physiology.

I am most thankful to the mentoring of LJMU Masters Art in Science tutors Kathryn Smith and Mark Roughley and their unwavering guidance from the very start of my project. Their thinking, critique and questioning has directed me to thoroughly interrogate all aspects of it, enabling a natural progression of ideas to be expressed.
